The Friends of Dundee City Archive present DUNDEE JUTE and PROGRESS OF A DUNDEE JUTE MILL Image
A rare opportunity to view two 15minute silent black and white films by JRL Halley. Dundee Jute (1948), winner at the 1949 Scottish Amateur Film Festival, captures jute production at Wallace Craigie Works using Halley's handheld clockwork 16mm camera. It follows the process from batching and carding through spinning and weaving to the finished cloth.

Progress of a Dundee Jute Mill (1950) looks back at the development of William Halley and Sons and includes a rare shot of a working beam engine at William Webster's of Arbroath, still operating at the time.

Iain Flett of the Friends of Dundee City Archives will introduce the films and provide a running commentary.
