What's On - The Living Body - A Six-Week Somatic Movement Series

Introducing The Living Body - coming to Dundee this autumn.

This six-week series brings the work of Essential Somatics, in the lineage of Thomas Hanna PhD, to Dundee for the first time. Six Tuesday mornings, 10:00–12:30, gentle floor-based movement.

Here's something most of us were never taught: muscles aren't really designed to be stretched. They're designed to contract and release. Chronic tension isn't your muscles being "tight" - it's your brain holding onto a contraction pattern it learned, often years ago, and has simply forgotten how to let go of. Hanna called this Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA).

Over six weekly sessions, you'll learn pandiculation - the technique your nervous system actually uses to release tension, the same way a cat or dog does every time it wakes up and stretches. It's not exercise. It's re-education.

This isn't just useful for six weeks, it's a skill for life. Many people find that as they learn to notice these patterns in their body, they start noticing them in how they live more broadly: where they brace, where they push too hard, where they've stopped paying attention entirely.

We're delighted to be working with Nilupul Foundation and hosted by Wellness Dundee at Harmony Hall for this series - a wonderful space right in the heart of the city.

The Living Body joins our existing series in Glasgow and Edinburgh and if there's demand, more towns and cities will follow. It only takes people being curious enough to show up.
