Shore Terrace, Dundee

Shore Terrace, Dundee - Ref: WC0601

This photograph shows the corner of Greenmarket, the broad area to the left and west with market stalls, and Shore Terrace, which runs parallel to and, in effect, forms a broadening of Dock Street across Earl Grey Dock.

The Crown Hotel, No. 1 Shore Terrace, was owned by Mrs E. Steel. It is also listed as No. 40 Greenmarket. Beyond were Mrs E. Cunningham, outfitter, Mrs A McLean, grain merchant, and McIntosh and Co., china merchants at Nos. 36, 34 and 32 respectively.

No. 2 Shore Terrace was Mrs John Thomson, tobacconist, while No. 3 was Thomson and Fraser, tobacconists. Dalgairns and Co., the wine merchants, were at No. 4, and the Dundee, Perth and London Shipping Line offices at No. 5.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
