Royal visit decorations, Royal Arch, Dundee - Ref: WC1669 View of the Royal Arch from the docks. The photograph shows the detail of carving on the Royal Arch with some railway wagons in the background. In the foreground there is some winding gear for unloading shops in the dock. Decoration for the Craig Harbour will be paid for by the Harbour Trustees. At first there was little enthusiasm for decorating shops buildings etc. but as the day of the visit grew nearer most shops and building were freely decorated and gave a great display (extract from Dundee Courier). Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923
