Broughty Ferry Library - lending department - Ref: WC1098
This photograph shows the interior of Broughty Ferry public library, which was formally opened on Wednesday 24th October 1928 by J. C. Buist. It was built on a site gifted by former Lord Provost Hunter on the north side of Queen Street.
The plans were by James M. Brown. The entrance is on the south side at the right of this photograph, with the issuing desk and reference section in the east portion of the building.
The timber / glass construction to the left actually stands at the top of a staircase, which leads down to the storage area. Although the interior layout of the building has changed, this feature has been retained.
Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
