Young people from across Dundee spent a week developing their musical talents through Soundbase 2026, a Leisure & Culture Dundee music project designed to nurture creativity, build confidence and develop performance skills.
Running from 13 to 17 July at Marryat Hall, the week-long programme gave young musicians the opportunity to work alongside experienced music professionals, learning new skills in songwriting, guitar, drums, keyboards, band performance and live music.
Participants were supported by a team of professional musicians including Paul "Lefty" Wright, Scott Donald, Callum Mackie and Susan Perkinton, gaining valuable hands-on experience in a collaborative and supportive environment.
This year's programme also welcomed acclaimed vocal coach, performer and songwriter Sue Quin, who is leading specialist workshops focused on vocal technique, performance and stage presence.
With more than 30 years' experience in the music industry, Sue has worked as a session singer, performer, songwriter and lecturer. Throughout her career she has collaborated with artists including Gloria Estefan and Russell Watson, contributed to television and film soundtracks and built a reputation as one of the UK's most respected session vocalists.
Her workshops provided participants with insights into the professional music industry while helping them develop the confidence and skills needed to perform and express themselves through music.

"We were particularly pleased to welcome Sue Quin to this year's programme. Her experience and expertise provided a fantastic opportunity for our young musicians to gain valuable insight into the music industry and develop their performance skills.
"It was also wonderful to be working with young musicians from Granton Youth in Edinburgh. These exchanges allow participants to share experiences, develop new friendships and celebrate the talent that exists within Scotland's young music communities."
This year Soundbase welcomed young musicians from Granton Youth in Edinburgh as part of an exchange programme that helps young bands from different parts of Scotland connect, share experiences and learn from one another.
Soundbase forms part of Leisure & Culture Dundee's wider commitment to supporting creative learning opportunities for young people.
The project concluded with a performance for participants' families and invited guests, providing young people with the opportunity to celebrate their achievements and showcase what they have learned during the week.
