Welcome to Bookbug

Bookbug

Bookbug is Scotland's Early Years Book Gifting Programme delivered in partnership by Scottish Book Trust, local authorities and health trusts.

Bookbug encourages parents and carers to share books with their children from as early an age as possible to inspire a love of books and reading in every child.

There are 4 fantastic free packs of books for young children in Dundee.

  • Bookbug Baby Bag for 6–16 weeks old (given out by Health Visitors)
  • Bookbug Toddler Bag for toddlers (given out by Health Visitors at baby's 1 year check-up)
  • Bookbug Pirate Bag for 3 year olds (given out in nurseries and libraries)
  • Bookbug Pack for Primary 1 children (given out in schools during the autumn term)
Getting a Bookbug Pack

Libraries, health staff, early years partners and nurseries in Dundee work together to try to make sure that all families receive their packs. If by any chance you missed getting a Bookbug pack, then pop into your local library to collect one.

What Are Bookbug Sessions?

Bookbug sessions are held in libraries and last for about 20 minutes. It is a great way for babies, parents and carers to enjoy familiar and new rhymes and stories in an informal setting. Rhymes are often repeated as children enjoy repetition and it helps to build confidence. Sharing books, stories, songs and rhymes builds vocabulary and the language and listening skills which are essential for your child's development. It is a good opportunity to meet other parents and is a fun time for everyone!
