Perth Road, Dundee - Ref: WC0536

This building is part of Queen's College, the one of the original sections of Dundee University, which stands slightly set back from the north side of Perth Road.

Originally built as a two-storey villa by the town architects as Union Mount in 1813, the building was converted for University College Dundee (which was then an annex of the University of St Andrews) in 1904-05 as a library and student's union.

Among David Neave's other principle achievements were Dundee Royal Infirmary (he completed the works in 1825-26 to designs of 1794 by John Paterson of Edinburgh) and the Thistle Hall, one of the town's concert venues, in Union Street.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
