Perth Road, Dundee

Perth Road, Dundee - Ref: WC0533

This photograph shows part of a section of the north side of Perth Road, Dundee, know as Windsor Terrace (a set of nine houses) and a separate villa in its own grounds.

That villa is Seymour Lodge, built in 1880 by C. & L. Ower at No. 259 Perth Road. David M. Walker (Architects and architecture in Dundee 1770-1914) says: 'their work (if taken in small quantities) is a great delight to the eye once in a while'.

Described in McKean and Walker's Dundee: and illustrated architectural guide as 'a St Trinian's for ladies from the best local families', Seymore Lodge is included in Dundee Central Library's Lamb Collection by virtue of a school magazine from 1937.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
