Morgan Academy, Dundee

Morgan Academy, Dundee - Ref: WC1475

Occupying a triangular site between Forfar Road and Pitkerro Road, Morgan Hospital was founded by John Morgan. Originally intended as a hospital to educate the sons of tradesmen and the working class, it was acquired by the School Board in 1889 and became Morgan Academy.

A sympathetically designed extension was built in 1992. Morgan Academy suffered a catastrophic fire on the 21st March, 2001. It is hoped the frontage can be rebuild with a modern school built behind it. (2001)

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
