Meadowside, Dundee - Ref: WC0375

Constitution Road leads steeply northwards to the left of this photograph of Dundee's Meadowside, which reads west to east, left to right.

Thomas Cuthbert was the founder of a coachworks business which originated in Perth. By 1892, the company had been in Meadowside for a dozen years, under the management of George Cuthbert.

His father, also George Cuthbert, built railway carriages for the Dundee & Newtyle, Glasgow & Ayr, Dundee & Perth and Dundee & Arbroath railways. George Cuthbert junior was deacon and assessor of Dundee's Nine Incorporated Trades.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
