Kings Road and King Street, Dundee

Kings Road and King Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0322

This photograph shows a part of Dundee which is no longer extant, apart from the general road layout and the mill in the distance, which was renovated in the 1980s and turned into flats.

Brodie & Buchan are listed in the Dundee Directory as agents for The Royal Bank of Scotland for around 20 years, the addresses being variously No. 22 King Street and No. 3 King's Road. Unfortunately none of the other buildings has a legible name.

Dundee Central Library Lamb 414 (1) has three issues of The King Street Rocket from 1885, promotional leaflets for local businesses, including John Prophet's umbrella shop, A. A. Paul the bookseller and stationer, and G. Liddle, a carver and gilder.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
