High Street, Dundee

High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0233

This photograph shows the southern side of High Street with the twin towers of St Paul's Episcopal Church and the Town House in the east and James E. Kerr ('the famed boot manufacturer') in the west (to the right), which is the start of Nethergate.

Next door were Manfield & Sons, and H. P. Tyler, both also boot manufacturers, and retailers.

D. & W. Prophet's Photographers Studio was at No. 23 High Street, above the North of Scotland Bank, Ltd., as well as 59 Wellgate. William Prophet lived at Viewbank in Wormit.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
