High Street, Dundee

High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0247

Taken from somewhere in front of Strathtay House (that is today's Boots), this photograph shows the south eastern section of Dundee High Street.

To the west (and right) of the Vault (the street leading down the side of the Town House) are A. W. R. Burrell, a wines and spirits merchants, and the offices of the Dundee & District Tramway Co., Ltd.

In the rooms above were the workshops of W. G. Stevenson, bookbinders, and Alexander Macpherson, "goldsmith and working jeweller".

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
