High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0279
Taken from the foot of Reform Street, this photograph concentrates on the southern section of Dundee High Street around the Town House. It is most unusual in the Wilson Collection because the lens has not quite been focused correctly.
William Stewart was the wine and spirit merchant who owned The Plough at No. 18 High Street, while next door is the 'mechanical dentist' William T Ross.
W P Laird and Sinclair at No. 21 were nurserymen. No. 19 housed Dodds and Bathie (auctioneers), Thomas Forbes (sheriff-officer), the Polytechnic Touring Association, Alexander Macpherson (jeweller) and James C Wallace (music teacher).
Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
