High Street, Dundee

High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0195

This photograph shows the north side of Dundee's High Street.

Perhaps the most interesting feature of it is The Garden, a vegetarian restaurant at No. 76, whose owner was Leo McGaughey, and which was above John Craig's hosiery.

Though clearly shown here as No. 74 (with advertisements reading "Property sold - whole stock to be cleared out"), Craig is listed in the Dundee Directory as No. 75. The watchmakers next door were Robertson & Watt.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
