Gilfillan Memorial Church, Dundee

Gilfillan Memorial Church, Dundee - Ref: WC1425

Gilfillan Memorial Church opened in 1888. The hardware store next door to the church was owned by Alexander Morris. The youth with the crutch (has only 1 leg) appears to be selling newspapers.

On right side of photograph is T. Justice & Sons - opened new shop in Whitehall Street in 1903 selling furniture and house decorations. A new innovation was a suite of rooms laid out on the second floor. It was said to compare favourably with London stores.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
