Decorations in Nethergate, Dundee

Decorations in Nethergate, opposite Tally Street, Dundee - Ref: WC1790

These buildings are decorated in celebration of a royal event. Possibly the coronation of Edward VII in August 1902. The street on the right of the photograph is Union Street. The building on the corner, Albion house, was the premises of draper, William Menzies.

Tally Street, seen in the photograph on the left, is no longer there. A recently modernised shopping complex, known as the Overgate Centre, now stands on the site.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
