Coronation decorations, Dundee - Ref: WC1699
The photograph gives a good idea of the Bill Posters of the era. There is a coal merchant with his horse and Dixons Football & Cricket Store. Very little in the way of flags and bunting displayed on buildings.
Messrs Fairweather & Sons Tobacco manufacturers presented each of their male employees with a King Edward Crown Piece and their female staff with a King Edward Half-Crown Piece.
Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
