Barnhill Convalescent Home, Dundee

Barnhill Convalescent Home, Dundee - Ref: WC1838

Similar in appearance to Baldovan Institution, the impressive looking Barnhill Convalescent Home was built using funds provided by Sir David Baxter of the famous jute manufacturing family.

Barnhill is situated beside Broughty Ferry and no doubt the rural, open aspect was felt appropriate for the wellbeing of the patients who were sent from Dundee Royal Infirmary to complete their recovery.

Alexander Wilson, who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
