High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0293

This photograph shows the south side of Dundee High Street from Crichton Street in the west (the right hand side) as far as the Royal Bank of Scotland in the east.

The building at the top of Crichton Street is the North of Scotland Bank, Ltd., whose agent was Robert Murray. Other companies in the block included D & W Prophet, photographers, and Patrick S. Walker, dentist.

The next block housed W G Stevenson, bookbinders, and W P Laird & Sinclair, nurserymen. They are listed in the Dundee Directory as seeds men and florists. W P Laird lived at Braefoot, Monifieth. No Sinclair is given individually in the accommodation lists.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
