Previous Winner - Jamie McDonald - Student Volunteer of the Year Winner 23/24
Dundee & Angus College student Jamie McDonald won the Student Volunteer of the Year award at the 23/24 Dundee Sports Awards held at the Apex Hotel in May 2024.
Jamie was recognised for volunteering over 50 hours with Active Schools with specific targeted groups including young carers. Jamie's commitment as a volunteer was crucial to enable targeted projects to run and change the lives of children through sport.
Since winning the Student Volunteer of the Year award, Jamie has gone from strength to strength with his volunteering, continuing to coach boxing to various targeted groups. He has also supported Active Schools holiday programmes, giving more children their first taste of the sport. Jamie continues to volunteer with Active Schools as part of his Dundee & Angus College course. Jamie and other students volunteer at Forthill Primary School, where they provide weekly tasters in different sports.
In addition, Jamie also started volunteering with Lochee Amateur Boxing Club. His role as a voluntary coach at the club includes planning and coaching sessions for the junior development squad aged between 10 and 15 years old. Each week, Jamie designs and develops sessions that work on the fundamentals of coaching. Jamie is also working towards becoming a registered coach with the club, allowing him to grow and continue developing within the boxing and coaching industry.
