
Dundee audiences are set for a standout afternoon of contemporary folk and gaelic music as Michael McGovern and Josie Duncan take the stage as part of the Marryat Hall's Tea and Tunes programme, just as McGovern experiences a surge of national attention following praise from Irish actor Paul Mescal.
Michael’s song “Evelyn” has gone viral after Mescal publicly expressed his admiration for the track, sparking a wave of online excitement and introducing the Glasgow-born singer songwriter to thousands of new listeners across the UK and Ireland.
About the Artists
Michael McGovern is a Glasgow-born folk singer songwriter whose debut album Highfield Suite earned widespread critical acclaim across the UK and Ireland. Praised by BBC Radio, RTÉ Lyric, and Hot Press Magazine, and endorsed by folk legend Paul Brady as “an unexpected gem,” McGovern is known for his fingerpicking guitar style, wide vocal harmonies, and lyrics influenced by Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Leonard Cohen. He has toured extensively across Europe, supported Mary Black on her sold out Irish tour, and performed at major festivals including Cambridge Folk Festival, Belladrum, and HebCelt.
Josie Duncan, a Live Music Now Scotland artist, is a captivating folk inspired songwriter and award winning singer from the Isle of Lewis. With a voice that radiates warmth and vulnerability, she weaves soulful melodies with heartfelt lyrics, drawing deeply from the rich musical heritage of the Western Isles. Winner of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, Josie has also written for Celtic Connections’ prestigious New Voices commission, establishing herself as one of Scotland’s most exciting contemporary folk voices.
