Forthill Community Sports Club is looking to support older sports fans in and around Broughty Ferry and the local area. They have teamed up with Sporting Memories, a charity which operates free community-based clubs across the UK. These clubs welcome older people who like to make friends and connections in their local area or have a passion for sport. Forthill Sporting Memories Club meets every Friday at 11.00am at Forthill Community Sports Club, Fintry Place, Broughty Ferry.

The club uses the power of remembering and talking about sport alongside physical activity to support older people aged 50+ to live better lives, including those living with dementia, depression, or living in isolation and lonely circumstances.

It’s a great opportunity for local people from all backgrounds to not only share their stories but to also partake in a weekly session that ignites old memories through photographs and quizzes as well as getting active again with a range of fun games and inclusive exercises. And if that isn’t enough, there’s also the opportunity to have a cup of tea or coffee with some biscuits included as well.

We believe the sessions are ideal for individuals who have an extra bit of time to go along to and all are welcome at the sessions! The club is encouraging local people to come along and enjoy the weekly sessions.

Alison MacKenzie, Community Sport Hub Officer with Leisure & Culture Dundee, who has supported Forthill Community Sports Club start up the Sporting Memories Club said “I am delighted to be supporting Forthill Community Sports Club to deliver a Sporting Memories group for older people. We believe that sport has the power to bring people together, to create positive memories, and deliver an increased sense of purpose and belonging. I would encourage older people to come along and enjoy our Sporting Memories group”.

Donna Mackey, Partnership Manager for Sporting Memories added “It’s our first club in the area and we are looking forward to working with Forthill Community Sports Club to make the club a success”.

Without volunteers, Sporting Memories clubs across the UK wouldn’t be able to run and all volunteers are provided with training and support to help them deliver engaging sessions for members – even for those who aren’t interested in sport! If you are interested in becoming a Sporting Memories volunteer, please get in touch.

Forthill Community Sports Club Sporting Memories meets every Friday with a weekly session running between 11.00am and 12.30pm at Fintry Place, Broughty Ferry.
