Dundee Libraries are holding a packed programme of events to celebrate Book Week Scotland 2025 which runs 17 to 23 November 2025. The events are being held at libraries across the city and include author talks, poetry workshop, craft sessions and walking tour.
Highlights in the programme include a poetic tribute to Dundee’s famously eccentric bard, William McGonagall with “Poetic Gems for Topaz: Verses for the Bicentenary of McGonagall” on Wednesday 19 November, followed by a walking tour of William McGonagall’s Dundee on Friday 21 November. Acclaimed authors Fiona Valpy and James Oswald will also feature in the programme's literary line-up. Fiona Valpy shares insights into her bestselling novels on Tuesday 18 November, while James Oswald discusses his gripping Inspector McLean series and fantasy works at Steps Theatre on Saturday 22 November.
Book Week Scotland is a national celebration of books and reading and this year’s theme for Book Week Scotland 2025 is Friendship.
During Book Week Scotland, people of all walks of life come together to share the joy of reading. Together with Scottish Book Trust's curated programme. Book Week Scotland partners deliver hundreds of unique, exciting events and activities that celebrate the transformative power of reading. They are joined in this celebration by Scotland’s authors, poets, playwrights, storytellers and illustrators to bring a programme of events and projects to life.
Neil Paterson, Library & Information Officer for Outreach Services at Leisure & Culture Dundee said
“This year’s Book Week Scotland celebrates friendship and what better way to connect than through stories? Dundee Libraries are bringing people together with a brilliant mix of author talks, poetry, and creative events that invite everyone to share in the joy of reading.”
Those who want to spend the week reading will also have plenty of choice, with a free book which will be distributed to libraries and Book Week Scotland partners across Scotland in the run up to the week.
