Antenatal

Brand new to Leisure & Culture Dundee, our Antenatal activities are open to those who are at least 14 weeks pregnant and aim to provide a friendly and welcoming environment to support both the mental and physical health of mums to be.

Pregnancy Swimming

Our Pregnancy Swimming session is one of the safest ways to exercise during pregnancy as the water supports your joints whilst also providing resistance work- strengthening your back and abdominal muscles ready for carrying your baby. We will provide you a warm pool lane to swim at your own pace with lifeguards on hand for support if required. (1.8m pool depth lane swimming).

Taking place in the training pool (lane 1) at Olympia on:

Physical activity is generally safe and encouraged throughout pregnancy due to the benefits it can have for both mum and baby. That said, there are instances where medical advice should be sought prior to engaging. To help you determine whether or not you should consult with a medical professional prior to participating we encourage you to take some time to read the Pre-Exercise information sheet.

Pre Exercise Information sheet

If you answer 'yes' to any statement, we strongly suggest consulting with you GP, Midwife, or any other relevant Healthcare Professional before engaging with physical activity.

Non-Pregnancy specific alternatives

Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you can no longer attend your favourite classes, which you attended in the weeks prior, and have to attend specific targeted classes. Many of our classes across our Group Fitness timetable can be adapted to keep you active throughout pregnancy.

Antenatal FAQs

+ Are these activities safe for me to take part in?

Physical activity during pregnancy has many health benefits and is generally not risky for you and your baby. But for some conditions, physical activity is not recommended. If you have any concerns please speak to you GP or midwife before taking part in any classes.

Therapeutic aquatic exercise has been demonstrated to improve pain and mobility for conditions such as lower back pain, hip and knee osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, post-surgery hip and knee rehabilitation, ankle injuries, shoulder injuries and a multitude of other musculoskeletal conditions.

In many research studies participants have reported that aquatic rehabilitation resulted in less pain during and after sessions, contributing to longer-term reductions in pain, improvement in mobility and strength.
