Dundee Libraries are inviting everyone across the city to Go All In and rediscover the joy of reading as part of the National Year of Reading 2026. This UKwide celebration has been created to make reading exciting, relevant and part of daily life, and aims to reconnect people of all ages with stories, ideas and interests that inspire curiosity. The campaign is being coordinated nationally by The Reading Agency, working alongside the National Literacy Trust and a wide network of partners.
Reading That Fits Your Life
Whether you enjoy music, films, food, sport, local history or simply love getting lost in a good story, this year's campaign encourages you to explore reading in ways that reflect your interests. Research shows that people fall back in love with reading when it connects with things they already care about and when it feels natural and enjoyable.
Throughout the year, Dundee Libraries will celebrate reading in all its forms. You can explore books, magazines, audiobooks, graphic novels and digital titles. If you have not visited recently, 2026 is a great time to drop in and discover something new.
Events Throughout the Year
Dundee Libraries will host a variety of activities and events that encourage people of all ages to take part in the National Year of Reading. This includes author talks, family sessions, community reading events and activities shaped by local interests and national themes.
One of the major highlights will be the Dundee Book Festival, taking place from 19 to 21 June, offering opportunities to meet writers, join workshops and explore new ideas.
Why Now
Across the UK, many people now read less frequently than before. Families say they struggle to find time to read together, and adults often speak about barriers such as low confidence, lack of time or difficulty finding suitable material.
The National Year of Reading aims to change this. Dundee Libraries remain trusted community spaces where everyone can feel comfortable exploring stories and ideas. They offer free access to information in a wide range of formats, along with support from staff who can help you build confidence and discover reading that is right for you.
