A special fringe event celebrating Scotland's prestigious Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award is coming to the Marryat Hall, Dundee, on Saturday 8 November, 2025.
Big Rock Records and Leisure & Culture Dundee welcome Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman for a unique audio-visual performance of their critically acclaimed album Ash Grey and the Gull Glides On, featuring a live brass and woodwind section. The album has been Longlisted for the 2025 SAY Award that takes place at sister venue the Caird Hall for the first time on November 6.
Based in Newport-on Tay, Big Rock Records has previously hosted five of this year’s 20 SAY Award longlisted artists: corto.alto, Kathryn Joseph, Hamish Hawk, Constant Follower and Walt Disco, both at their home village's Rio Community Centre and Lughnasadh Music & Art Festival at Forgan Arts Centre.
Wasylyk’s cinematic compositions have been Shortlisted in previous years for the Scottish Album of the Year Awards and awarded BBC Radio 6 Music’s Gideon Coe’s Album of the Year. He has collaborated with former National Poet for Scotland Liz Lochhead and written soundtracks for Radio 4.
Perman’s career has earned him a Scottish Bafta and taken him around the world. He has released records under his own name and with experimental group/arts collective FOUND. His artworks have been projected onto Sydney Opera House and collected by the National Museum of Scotland.
For several years these ground-breaking Scottish composers have orbited each other’s worlds through collaborations spanning record releases, film scores and sound installations. Now they meet for a transcendental journey through electronic, ambient and neoclassical genres, documenting a forward-thinking union between two artists at the height of their creative powers.
Special guests on the evening are Be Charlotte and Mairi Sutherland. Since starting to find her voice as a teenager with an acoustic guitar in Dundee, Be Charlotte has taken on the pop world touring Europe, North America. She is also Longlisted for this year’s SAY Award. Mairi is a captivating singer-songwriter from Perth, Scotland, whose elegant songwriting, complex finger-style guitar and thoughtful lyrics have been quietly turning heads across Scotland.
