Dundee Libraries are pleased to announce a new partnership with DC Thomson, which will see reminiscence packs supplemented with images from the DC Thomson archives. This exciting collaboration aims to enrich the experience of those using the reminiscence packs, making the journey down memory lane even more vivid and engaging.
Currently, the Library Service, run by Leisure & Culture Dundee, offers over 40 topic reminiscence packs available for loan to care homes, sheltered housing complexes, third sector groups and any other library borrowers. These packs contain a diverse mixture of resources, including books, photographs, music CDs and artefacts to handle. Each pack is thoughtfully designed to stimulate conversation between support workers and small groups or individuals working on a one-to-one basis with a family member.
The reminiscence packs cover a wide range of topics, such as growing up in the 1940s, 1950s, or 1960s, Old Dundee, Scotland, holidays, food, shopping, fashion, needlecraft, transport, sport, nature, ghost stories and true crime stories. Dundee Libraries are continually developing additional packs and topics, often in response to specific requests from reminiscence groups.
Neil Paterson, Library & Information Officer at Leisure & Culture Dundee said,
"We are delighted to partner with DC Thomson to enhance our reminiscence packs. This collaboration allows us to provide even richer resources for our communities, helping to spark memories and stimulate meaningful conversations."
David Powell, Archive Manager at DC Thomson said,
"DC Thomson is happy to be able to contribute content from our archive to these reminiscence packs. We recognise the value of our photography, comics and annuals to stimulate discussion and fond memories, and are delighted to be doing this in partnership with the library service where this material can have a wide reach and help make a positive impact across local communities."
The packs are delivered by Dundee Libraries' At Home Library Service. For further details on how to access the reminiscence packs, please call Libraries at Home team on 01382 431528.
