Dundee Musicians to look out for in 2025

Some of Dundee’s top musicians and bands have been recognised by Leisure & Culture Dundee as part of the 2024/25 Dundee Musicians’ Awards, receiving vital support to bring their creative visions to life. Singer-songwriter Andrew Baird will use his funding to record Red and Gold, a four-track EP of original songs, while Scottish rapper Shaun Scott, fresh from winning Best Newcomer at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards, continues to push his genre forward with new music and live shows. Funding has also been awarded for weekly music workshops at Rossi Young People’s Trust. Composer and multi-instrumentalist Stacey MacLeay will record a cello-based EP for the American label Oystertones, blending modal melodies with experimental composition. Established in 2008, the Dundee Musicians' Award continues to champion the city's vibrant and diverse music scene.

Andrew Baird

Andrew is a singer-songwriter from Dundee with a distinctive style and love of storytelling through song.

A regular performer at Dundee Fringe, he enjoys playing folk clubs and running local songwriting sessions. He is now ready to bring my songs to life by recording with other artists.

Andrew has received funding to support the recording of a four track EP called “Bring my songs to life” a 4 track EP of original songs.

Shaun Scott (rapper Eugene)

Shaun's journey in music has always been about raw storytelling, authenticity, and making space for Scottish rap on a bigger stage. From early days crafting lyrics to winning Best Newcomer at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards, Scott has stayed committed to representing his city and his sound. He feels winning this award is a huge milestone, and it fuels his drive to keep building, collaborating and putting Dundee on the map. He's excited for what’s next—new music, live shows, and continuing to grow as an artist in a city that’s given him so much.

Funding has been awarded to support weekly music workshop production in Rossi Young People’s Trust.

Stacey MacLeay

Stacey MacLeay is a Scottish composer, sound designer, and songwriter. A multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, she is predominantly a cellist who seeks to create aural paintings of her surrounding landscapes, of feelings, of states of mind, through an avant-garde fusion of modal melody and experimental composition.

Stacey uses acoustic instruments, mainly cello, and sound manipulation to create scenic, cinematic pieces capturing moments and places.

Her music has been described as having a balance of light and dark throughout. Clashes, microtones and free time can feel sometimes unsettling, sometimes beautiful.

Stacey has been awarded funding to write and record an E.P. of my own compositions, solely on cello, for an American record label, Oystertones. The E.P. would be a precursor to a full album due out later in the year.

The Dundee Musicians' Award is staged by Leisure and Culture Dundee. The Award was established in 2008 to support the work of outstanding Dundee-based musicians by awarding grants towards the costs involved in creating new work in any genre, research and professional development.
