Additional Support Needs

Brand new to Leisure & Culture Dundee, our ASN Learn to Swim programme is designed for children with additional needs, offering a welcoming environment that supports and builds freedom of movement, buoyancy, and sensory stimulation as they embark on their learn-to-swim journey. Entry level for everyone will be our 'Splash' class where our experienced teachers will work with you to determine whether our ASN Learn to Swim programme would be suitable. Where and when appropriate we may recommend and encourage integrating within our mainstream group lessons.

Additional Support Needs - Splash

Water confidence sessions for 5-11 years & 12-17 years with in water support from a supervising adult(parent/carer/guardian).

Our weekly session provides access to a fun & welcoming environment. Through fun games and play children will have the opportunity to meet & make new friends. This session requires in water support from the supervising adult.

Additional Support Needs - Learn to Swim

Swimming lessons for 5-11 years & 12-17 years with in water support from a supervising adult (parent/carer/guardian).

Our additional support learn to swim programme provides an inclusive pathway allowing participants to learn and celebrate achievements. A progressive programme for children who require additional support with their learn to swim journey.

An online portal is provided to manage bookings, check on the swimmers progression.

Bookings and enquiries for entry Level – ASN Swim Skill 1 should be directed to – aquaticactivities@leisureandculturedundee.com, children will be invited along to our ASN Splash session to access suitability for the ASN School Learn to Swim programme or integration within mainstream group lessons.

Antenatal FAQs

+ Are these activities safe for me to take part in?

Physical activity during pregnancy has many health benefits and is generally not risky for you and your baby. But for some conditions, physical activity is not recommended. If you have any concerns please speak to you GP or midwife before taking part in any classes.

Therapeutic aquatic exercise has been demonstrated to improve pain and mobility for conditions such as lower back pain, hip and knee osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, post-surgery hip and knee rehabilitation, ankle injuries, shoulder injuries and a multitude of other musculoskeletal conditions.

In many research studies participants have reported that aquatic rehabilitation resulted in less pain during and after sessions, contributing to longer-term reductions in pain, improvement in mobility and strength.

+ What facilities are available at Olympia?

Individual cubicles in unisex changing areas. Olympia Car Park on site (council parking charges apply) and additional parking at Gallagher Retail Park. Safe environment with access barriers operating in the building and fully manned reception. Spectator facility balcony.
