Leisure & Culture Dundee celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 5 March with a special visit from emerging children's author and illustrator Elaine Green, who hosted a series of storytelling sessions for local nursery and primary school pupils at Coldside Community Library.
Elaine met classes from Dens Road Primary School, SS Peter and Paul RC Primary School, and Coldside Nursery, delivering live readings of her debut book The Sock in Search of His Soul. She also led a creative workshop where children designed and illustrated their own sock characters.
The visit also formed the Dundee launch of Elaine's new selfpublished picture book.
Based in Fife, Elaine Green is completing an honours degree in illustration at Edinburgh College of Art. Her work is shaped by a lifelong passion for storytelling, picture books and visually engaging characters, inspired by the magical way illustrations can ignite imagination, wonder and excitement in young readers.
Elaine's debut book, The Sock in Search of His Soul, introduces Jeffrey, a plain sock with big dreams. Swept from a washing line by a gust of wind, Jeffrey embarks on a heartwarming journey filled with new friends, discoveries and joy. The story blends gentle humour with vibrant illustrations and delivers a message about friendship and finding happiness in unexpected places.
Leisure & Culture Dundee's Libraries team was delighted to welcome Elaine as part of its commitment to encouraging a love of books, storytelling and creativity among children across the city.
Pupils enjoyed meeting Elaine, listening to a live reading and taking part in a fun craft activity creating their own sockinspired character.
