Kingspark Youth Club is run by Gillian Pack (Active Schools Coordinator) and started in April 2024 for all our pupils over 14 years. We have also invited a few ex-pupils back to participate in this club. The club aims to help them mix with others, for families to socialise, meet new coaches/teachers, and visit various venues in the community. For our ex-students, it allows them to still have a link and safety net with Kingspark School when they leave.
So far, we have worked with Strathmore Community Rugby Trust at Kingspark School and visited their outdoor club in Forfar, which was a great experience for them all. We have had Susan from East Coast Krav Maga in to lead a self defence session (which some of our parents even enjoyed!), the fantastic Heather from Lochee Boxing Club and also Boccia with Cameron (an ex-pupil of Kingspark and Scottish Student silver medalist succeeding at Special Olympics) from Dundee Boccia Club. We enjoyed visiting Dundee United Community Trust grounds for a session on their outdoor pitch. We had the opportunity to visit The Space Theatre (Dundee & Angus College), where they took part in a dance workshop on stage and met some of our S4-S6 Dance Leaders from other secondary schools in Dundee and Angus. We were also treated to performances from the dance leaders and Kingspark Dance Company.
This term, our youth club has had the opportunity to work with the Leisure and Culture (Active Dundee) Active Movers programme to try Cheerleading, we even visited Menzieshill Community Centre to try out a class with other participants. Kanzen Karate visited us for a very energetic, fun session at Kingspark School, and we had an outing to Lochee Boxing Club as well as some Christmas fun.
It's been great to meet lots of new faces coming into the school to work with the pupils, to see their confidence growing each week and to see them trying out new places in the community and having lots of fun. We look forward to exploring more activities next year and would love to hear from lots of different organisations or facilities that would like to invite us all along to take part.
We are so lucky for all of these organisations to provide these FREE tasters to our pupils and we want to say a Huge Big Massive Thank You to all of them for making this possible and helping make a difference in these children's lives.
