The Dundee Sports Award winners 23/24 were unveiled at a glittering ceremony in the city's Apex Hotel on Saturday evening hosted by Leisure & Culture Dundee, the charitable trust that delivers leisure, sports, cultural and library services.
The event brought together local athletes, clubs, schools, coaches and volunteers from across Dundee. The awards paid tribute to the success of our performance sports clubs, athletes and schools on the same evening and also celebrated clubs, schools and individuals that change lives through sport. They also praised the work that is taking place to provide sporting opportunities to more people in schools and communities across Dundee.
The awards opened with a fantastic performance from dance group Revolution from St Johns RC High School. The evening then welcomed speaker Bruce Aitchison, known for his 'Happiness Is...' podcast. Bruce was full of energy as everyone celebrated sport from across the city. Leisure & Culture Dundee was also delighted to be joined by two inspirational athletes to hear about their sporting journeys. Former GB and Scotland international hockey player Vikki Bunce and GB distance runner Derek Rae shared with guests how sport has changed their lives.
Judy Dobbie, Managing Director of Leisure & Culture Dundee, said,
"The Dundee Sports Awards 23/24 have been a huge success. It's all thanks to the hard work and passion of our colleagues, partners, volunteers and athletes dedicated to keeping sports alive in Dundee and beyond. The pathways for getting involved in sports are clearer than ever and as we celebrate the winners at the Dundee Sports Awards 23/24, we're excited to see what the future holds. A massive congratulations to all the winners, and a special shout-out to the Gym Rental Company, our sponsors, and everyone who made this event such a great evening."
