National Athlete Access Programme
Leisure & Culture Dundee will offer supported access to facilities for National Athletes based in Dundee in line with their National Governing Body training plan. The scheme will offer supported access to:
Fitness Suites & Swimming Pools
- Access will either be through a reduced monthly membership (£10 per month) or a free monthly membership depending on the information provided by the athlete and endorsed by their NGB
Sport Specific Facilities
- Access will cost £4.20 / £2.00 per session dependent on the information provided by the athlete, endorsed by their NGB and at the discretion of Leisure & Culture Dundee
- Sport specific access will only be for activity detailed on the athlete’s NGB training plan (i.e. a basketball player can access a sports hall for individual skills training)
- Sport specific access is for individual training out with club / squad training
- Access will need to be in line with the risk assessments for the facility & activity (i.e. it may be necessary for a responsible adult to supervise)
- Sport specific access can be booked up to 3 days in advance but facility staff have the right to cancel the booking if a commercial booking is taken
Application Process
- Application Form to be completed by national athlete
- Form to be countersigned by NGB representative to confirm that the athlete is currently within a national performance squad and the information provided is accurate
- Form to be returned to landsadmin@leisureandculturedundee.com along with a copy of athlete’s NGB training plan
- Applicants informed of decision and provided with a membership card providing agreed access to the relevant facilities for a period of 12 months (or until the NGB reviews their national squads)
- Agreement to be reviewed on an annual basis or in line with NGB review of squads and subject to athlete still being involved in their sport’s national performance pathway
Criteria
- Athlete must be a Dundee resident (exceptions apply*)
- Athlete must have been selected / active member for a national squad by a National Governing Body recognised by sportscotland
- Only the named athlete must use the membership card provided through this agreement
- Agreement is only valid for additional training out with club / squad training sessions
- Athletes agree to participate in promotion and year end Monitoring & Evaluation of the Supported National Athlete Programme
- For identified activities, athletes will only be given access in line with risk assessments for the facility / activity
- Only athletes aged 14+ can access fitness suites in line with Health & Safety guidance
* Athletes who live in close proximity to Dundee, and Dundee facilities are closer than the facilities in their own region to access could be accommodated within this agreement - this is at the discretion of Leisure & Culture Dundee.
