Good Boost

Move More - Have Fun - Feel Better

Good Boost

Brand new to Leisure & Culture Dundee and based at Olympia, Good Boost Move is a low-impact water-based programme aimed at those who are living with a musculoskeletal condition affecting bones, joints or muscles, those living with obesity and those who are otherwise physically inactive. Utilising robust, waterproof tablets, the programme uses artificial intelligence (AI) to give participants a personalised aqua workout that is specifically designed to help with their mobility, balance and fitness.

Good Boost technology aims to improve people’s lives by helping them to get moving with gentle exercise in a fun and social environment. The technology supports people to reduce pain, improve their range of movement and rebuild their fitness with the added benefit of the water to support joints and ensure a low-impact workout.

The Good Boost devices have been designed in a user-friendly way and a member of staff will always be on hand for help and support. Each participant has their own tablet to take them through their own personalised workout, tailored to their specific needs and health conditions.

Inductions and Bookings

An induction must be completed before booking onto the programme. Each induction session will go over all aspects of the programme - how it works and what to expect, but more importantly will familiarise you with the tablets and give you time to create your unique user profile. This allows the NHS approved artificial intelligence to get to know you and create a bespoke training programme that is tailored to your individual needs. You will be fully supported through this so please don't worry if you struggle with technology.

Inductions are free of charge and run at Olympia at the following times:

Mondays 11:00-12:00 & 13:00-14:00
Wednesdays 11.30-12.30 & 13.00-14.00

Good Boost FAQs

+ Will Good Boost work for my condition or problem?

Research studies have shown that aquatic exercise can be more effective than conservative methods of pain management and rehabilitation to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis (osteoarthritis), back pain and recovery from joint replacement surgery.

Therapeutic aquatic exercise has been demonstrated to improve pain and mobility for conditions such as lower back pain, hip and knee osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, post-surgery hip and knee rehabilitation, ankle injuries, shoulder injuries and a multitude of other musculoskeletal conditions.

In many research studies participants have reported that aquatic rehabilitation resulted in less pain during and after sessions, contributing to longer-term reductions in pain, improvement in mobility and strength.

+ Do I need to be a confident swimmer to take part in classes?

No. Your programme is designed around you and approximately 10% of Good Boost participants register as non-swimmers, and around 30% as low confidence swimmers. For non and lower confidence swimmers, your exercises will be in the shallow end.

+ Do I need to be referred by my doctor or physiotherapist?

No. Good Boost is a self-management programme that requires no referral.

+ What do I need to wear in the pool?

Normal swimwear is fine. Some participants prefer to wear a sports t-shirt or swimming top (rash vest). It’s important that you wear what makes you feel comfortable in the pool.

+ Will I be fit enough to take part in the session?

Individual programmes are tailored to your level of fitness. Whether you are new or returning to exercise, your programme will be designed to work with your needs and preferences.
