The Connections Suite in the Central Library holds material and resources specifically intended for the visually impaired user.
We have a large selection of audio books available on tape. The stock includes works by popular writers read by celebrated personalities. Categories of talking books available include Crime, Family, Humorous and Historic stories, as well as general Fiction and Non Fiction material. Friendly staff are on hand in the department to help with the selection of material or to advise you on new or forthcoming titles.
Our stock also includes a self help section containing books on health related matters such as Well Being, Relaxation and Emotional Support. A Carers’ Collection in this area offers materials to borrow on Makaton, Aspergers, Dyslexia, AADHD, autism and dyscalculia.
We have a wide range of Music CDs available to borrow. An extensive back catalogue collection caters for all tastes, including Jazz, Classical, Folk and Country. There is also a facility to listen to CDs or audio books within the department.
A range of magazines on a variety of topics. Back copies are retained and are available on request please ask for details.
Support for Groups
The Connections Suite of the Central Library offers a wide range of multi-sensory materials for loan. These materials are available for loan to carers, family members, homes, day centres, or anyone involved with individuals, or groups, who may need an alternative format so they can participate in the storyreading or listening process. Groups of users with additional needs meet in the library for Reading Groups or to participate in IT sessions. A computer suite offers assistive software and accessibility aids such as Kurtzweil reading application, Boardmaker and Read & Write. A trackball mouse and a keyboard for users who may have limited motor skills.
