Charleston Community Library

Man selecting a book

Charleston Library is part of the newly rebuilt Charleston Community Centre in Craigowan Road. The library is now bigger and better and has enabled us to offer more space for our stock and public access terminals.

The Library is the main information centre for the area. We have a variety of leaflets on many topics including health. There are 10 public access computer terminals available – 4 in the library and 6 in the Alec Craigie Learning Suite. In the future we will have a self-service point for issuing and returning books. If you want to learn how to access the Internet we have computer taster sessions. Just ask at the desk.

We have a good selection of fiction and non-fiction hardback books plus paperback and talking books for adults, as well as for children and teenagers. Our new online catalogue is now available to help you search for your favourite author. Our book displays are changed regularly and feature special themes. There are also newspapers and magazines for adults and children. A small collection of DVDs is available for borrowing. If you can’t find the item you’re looking for, we can try to get it from another Library if it is in stock there.

Charleston Library has a variety of activities on offer including an Adult Reading Club which meets on the last Monday of each month, a Baby Rhyme Time on Tuesday afternoons and a Homework Club on Tuesdays. There are always school holiday activities and in term-time children from local schools come on class visits.

We also offer free phone/fax access to Council Departments, a public fax service and photocopying facilities. You can arrange to have your unwanted household items to be collected by the Council and you can also collect dog litter bags.

In co-operation with the Community Centre, various groups make use of the Library when it’s closed.

Our staff are always willing to help you, so please ask for assistance Why not drop in to Charleston Library and see for yourself what we have to offer.
