Victoria Diamond Jubilee decorations, Dundee - Ref: WC1694

Photograph shows a group of small children some holding posies of flowers. Two ladies both obviously in "Sunday best" one wearing a hat and veil. Mr Taylor of the Committee of Arrangements arranged an excursion for the Town Council across the Tay Bridge, 3 hours after it had been passed by the Board of Trade Inspectors.

A firework display has been arranged at Magdalen Green and rockets will be discharged from barges moored in the river plus a cascade of fireworks from the Tay Bridge. The steamer Princess Alice will be moored at the Esplanade and will release balloons before the display. Over 50,000 attended.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
