Springfield, Dundee - Ref: WC0610

This photograph from the Alexander Wilson Collection shows the northern portion of Springfield in Dundee, an anonymous series of 'Regency terraced houses' with 'Greek Doric porticos' dating from 1828.

No. 15 was home to John B. Mcdonald, commission merchant and produce broker in Rankine's Court. He was still living there in 1903, although his business had removed to No. 31 Meadowside.

In 1892, No. 16 housed the family of Robert Philip, a draper whose business, The Bee Hive, was at No. 20 West Port. In 1897, Peter H. Nicoll, the iron merchant lived there.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
