Perth Road, Dundee

Perth Road, Dundee - Ref: WC0532

This photograph shows the north side of Dundee's Perth Road, leading eastwards to the right into the city centre. Although not immediately clear, several small streets lead both to north and south on this stretch.

The rather odd-looking church tower in the distance is that of Ryehill United Presbyterian Church, built in 1878 to designs by George Shaw Aitken. The building (with its striking tower removed!) was converted to flats in 1987 by CJFP Architects.

John Paton's Fish Mart was at No. 99 Perth Road. No information has been found concerning Mrs W. Moore, the newsagent. The business does not appear to be listed in any edition of the Dundee Directory.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
