Dundee's Perth Road is seen is in this photograph leading westwards, with the north side to the right.
Hugh McIntosh, the baker, was at No. 159, with other shops at No. 221 Hawkhill and No. 8 Dudhope Crescent Road. The bakehouse was at No. 20 Pennycook Lane. He lived at No. 23 Step Row. Butcher George Duncan at No. 161 Perth Road.
Grocer Robert A. Colville was at No. 163. Beyond Ford's Lane, Joseph Ridgway was the hairdresser at No. 165. No. 167 was the fruiterer, James Philips, while the wine and spirits merchant at Nos. 169-173 was William Speed, who lived at No. 2 Ford's Lane.
Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
