This photograph shows Dundee's Overgate shopping area with The Town House visible in the High Street to the east.

Paul Kane is listed in the Dundee Directory as a 'wholesale warehouseman, smallwares, yarns, hosiery, drapery, &c.; wholesale depot for John Paton, Sons, & Co.'s Alloa Yarns'. The proprietor was J. A. L. Nixon.

Robert Wills was the bootmaker at No. 29, whose stock is reduced for a removal sale. At No. 31 were Robert Adam, a lockmaker, G. & A. Low, joiners, George McIntosh, basketmakers who also had a shop in Bank Street, and the Thistle Operative Masonic Hall.


Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
