Morgan Academy, Dundee

Morgan Academy, Dundee - Ref: WC1482

Taken from Pitkerro Road this side view of Morgan Academy highlights the many decorative features on the building. Work began on what was then known as Morgan Hospital in 1850. It was founded by John Morgan. The School Board acquired the building in 1889 and renamed it Morgan Academy.

Sadly, Morgan Academy suffered a catastrophic fire on Wednesday, 21st March, 2001. Salvage on the decorative features is currently underway. It is planned to rebuild the frontage and create a modern school in the rear. (2001)

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
