Lindsay Street, Dundee

Lindsay Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0342

This photograph looks west along Nethergate to the left, with the south end of Lindsay Street leading right past the Old Steeple, here enclosed by railings.

The spire at the extreme left is that of St Enoch's United Reform church.

The "Established 1842" sign on Dr Stewart's dentistry is poetic licence. When John Stewart arrived in Dundee after a period working abroad, he joined Messrs. Lothian & Chatham, which was founded in that year,

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
