High Street, Dundee

High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0239

The street leading southwards to the left of this photograph is Castle Street; to the right (and west) is the southern side of High Street as far as the Town House.

The three buildings at the left were knocked down not long after this image was captured to make way for the Royal Bank of Scotland.

D. M. Allan, perfumer, hairdresser and wig maker, planned to move to No. 19 Murraygate, and the advertising hoarding on the front of The Globe states that the sale is in its last week.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
