High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0242

The church tower at the left (and western end) of this photograph is that of the Town Churches; Melville House and Thorter Row are the main point of focus.

Melville House is festooned with life belts, paddles, etc., to draw attention to a money raising campaign for the Lifeboats Fund.

At No. 5 Thorter Row is 'The News Bureau', J. Taylor, newsagent. The Chocolate Warehouse has not been located in any Dundee Directory listing.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
