High Street, Dundee

High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0254

Looking eastwards from right to left, this photograph shows the south eastern section of Dundee High Street.

Smith Brothers and the Quality Value Clothing Co. are advertising closure sales, so the photograph must date from before 1899, when the site was redeveloped as The Royal Bank of Scotland building.

William Hutchen, the tailor at No. 6 High Street, also had a drapery at Arcade Buildings, 4B King Street; he lived at No. 6 High Street.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
