High Street, Dundee (south side) - Ref: WC0288

This photograph looks southwards into the Vault, to the right (and west) of the Town House.

H P Tyler's boot maker's shop stands at the top of Crichton Street. He also had premises at 22 Princes Street and 124 1/2 Hilltown. James Waddell at No. 3 Crichton Street was a pork butcher. He also had shops at 62 Wellgate, and 160 & 164 Overgate.

The North of Scotland Bank moved into renovated premises at No. 24 High Street in 1874, having temporarily carried on business at 11 Church Lane, opposite the Union Hall. Dundee Central Library's Lamb Collection 261(15) has a description of the interior.


Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
