High Street, Dundee

High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0219

This view of Dundee's High Street is from the north side of the Clydesdale Bank building, looking west.

The spire of the town house can be seen in the middle distance.

The photograph must have been taken before 1899, when the buildings at the north end of Castle Street were replaced by the magnificent Royal Bank of Scotland building to designs by Sir George Washington Browne.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
